Natya's Legacy

It is with great regret to report the loss of a Tax Star client. Dorothy Richardson, 97 years old, who was the stepdaughter of Edward Jones, and daughter of Lydia Jones. She was a traveling performer whose stage name was "NATYA." She performed with the greats Sammy Davis Jr, Josephine Baker, Pearl Bailey, and Billy Holiday at Apollo, and the like, all over the country , Canada, and Europe.

Her mother performed at the Cotton Club during the Harlem renaissance Era. The Cotton Club was Harlem's premier nightclub in the 1920s and 1930s during the Prohibition Era. The club featured many of the greatest African American entertainers of the era, including Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, and Ethel Waters.

It was such honor to get to know and serve her, and she was kind and warm spirited. To come across her legacy and unfold the jewels of history she possessed will be cherished.
